Frequently Asked Questions

What's AutoSlash all about?
AutoSlash is a website dedicated to saving people money on car rentals. Through our innovative use of coupons and discount codes as well as our unique price tracking technology, we can guarantee you the best possible rate on your car rental. Go to the how it works page to learn more about us and renting a car with AutoSlash.
Do you charge for your services?
No, our service is 100% free. You will pay for your rental at the counter when you pick up the car.
What do I need to rent a car?
The car rental company will require that you have a valid driver's license and a major credit card in your own name with at least enough available credit to cover the cost of the rental. Some companies may require an additional deposit depending on the location. NOTE: If you are renting at an airport location, but have not arrived by plane, some locations will require you to bring a utility bill in your name showing your local address.
Can I pay for my rental with a debit card or in cash?
Policies vary by company and individual location. The age of the renter and whether the renter has a proof of a round-trip airline ticket can also be a factor. If you are not paying by credit card, it's best to check with the individual location on their policies beforehand. If you've already booked a reservation with AutoSlash, we'd be happy to assist with this by visiting our contact us page.
How do I change or cancel an existing reservation?

You can easily make changes to your existing reservation online. There is a link in the original email confirmation you received from us that you can click on, or you can go to our website and select Help from the menu the top of the page, and then Reservation Lookup from the options on the left.

You will need to enter your AutoSlash Trip ID, which is a 12-digit number that was included as part of the confirmation email we sent you. You will also need to enter the email address that you used when you made the reservation.

There is never a charge to change or cancel an existing reservation. Keep in mind though that rental rates change all the time. Anytime you make a change, your rental will re-price at the current rate. This could be higher, lower or the same as your current rate. Sometimes even renting for a shorter period of time can increase your rate, so review the information carefully before making any changes.

Does AutoSlash support local (non-airport) rentals?

Yes you can book both airport and local rentals via AutoSlash. The default on our homepage is to pick up the car at the airport. If you'd like to rent a car locally, just click on the little bubble next to near an address and the form will change to let you enter in a street address.

You can enter in all or part of an address. For example, you can enter in just the zip code, just a city and state, or a combination of the two. The system will automatically figure out the closest rental offices to your selected location and show you the distance on the rental pricing grid on the next page. (Hint: Look at the top of the columns to see the distance from the selected location. You can even click the mileage numbers to see a map of where the location is.)

Does AutoSlash allow for picking up the car in one location and dropping off in another location?
Yes, this is known as a one-way rental. Just click the checkbox labeled Return at a different location? on the blue search box on our homepage. The form will then expand allowing you to enter a different return location. You can pick-up or drop-off at an airport or local (non-airport) location.
What if I need options like a child seat or a GPS navigation system with my rental?

There are a number of options you can select for your rental during the reservation process. Once you select the company and vehicle you'd like from the pricing grid, you'll see a confirmation screen with details of the vehicle you've selected. At the bottom of this screen, you'll see a section labeled Optional special equipment request. You can select up to 3 optional items per rental.

You'll also notice a small underlined text link labeled See Rules. Clicking on this link will take you to a screen that will show you additional information on the various options, and in many cases their cost. Note that this information is populated by the rental companies on an individual location basis, and it may not always be complete or accurate, so use it as a basic guide.

In most cases, the cost of these options is NOT included in the cost of your rental. If an option is included in the price, it will be clearly stated on the confirmation page. Generally the cost of the options is added on at the rental counter. In some cases, these options are negotiable in terms of price, or even being thrown in for free. If you wear a smile and ask nicely, you'd be surprised the deals you can get.

What about insurance coverage?

Rental insurance can be added at the rental counter. The rental companies sell a number of different coverage options including:

Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) – sometimes also referred to as Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) - covers the costs of damage to the rental vehicle in the event of an accident.

Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) – provides coverage in the event of an accident causing bodily injury or property damage to someone other than the renter and passengers.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) – covers medical costs and accidental death for the renter and passengers in the event of an accident during the rental.

Personal Effects Coverage (PEC or PEP) – insures against risk of loss or damage to the personal belongings of the renter (and sometimes the members of the renter's family while traveling with the renter) during the period of the rental.

The cost and exact coverage of these options vary by company and location. When you book a car through AutoSlash, there are links for the policies and cost for the insurance options offered at each specific rental location.

Also note that although frequently not explicitly stated, US car rental companies are required by respective state law to provide minimal liability coverage. This covers costs to a third party in the event of an accident. In most states it is illegal to drive a car without liability coverage therefore this must be included in the cost of rental.
