New years have new beginnings, and for Enterprise Holdings (Alamo, Enterprise, and National), the new year won't have any connection to the Plenti combined loyalty program. The Plenti program has offered some great traveler benefits in the past, such as a promotion to earn $20 in fuel after three ExxonMobil fill-ups back in September 2017. And for frequent renters at Alamo, it was one way to earn a benefit (points toward future free fuel), as the Alamo Insider's program doesn't award credits toward free days. Sadly, that option ends on December 31, 2017 and leaves Plenti with no rental car partners

It's Not Really a Major Loss

In the grand scheme of rental cars, Enterprise Holdings' departure from Plenti is minor. As we mentioned in our previous review article, renters from Enterprise or National were always better off earning points/credits toward future free rental days via Enterprise Plus or National's Emerald Club. The termination of the participation agreement by Enterprise Holdings simply means that Plenti didn't offer enough value (read, "incremental revenue") to the company. The only takeaway is that Alamo reservations won't be connected to any potentially lucrative rewards program of note, just like in the pre-Plenti era; Alamo's fruitless program of the modern era saddens us primarily because that company initially created the concept of award days

We won't mourn the departure of the Enterprise Holdings companies from Plenti points for long. Points previously earned can still be used with other Plenti partners (such as ExxonMobil stations) and there are few cases where Alamo's so much cheaper that we would intentionally forgo awards. Many major partners have already left (AT&T) or are in the process of leaving (Hulu, Nationwide Insurance) but others still remain.

We do hope the remainder of the program stays intact as we're tremendous fans of the ExxonMobil Plenti offers and I was more than happy to earn a $5.50 rebate for redeeming $25 toward fuel just this morning! Yet we still see the potential of the Plenti program completely imploding in the coming year ...
