We reported last month that the Enterprise franchisee in Scandinavia went bankrupt, which effectively caused Enterprise to pull out of the region. Now it appears that Enterprise has also ceased doing business in Austria as well, which is a bit inconvenient given that the summer season is just getting into full swing, and Enterprise likely has thousands of reservations picking up over the next few months.
According to Enterprise's website, the following airport locations are no longer accepting reservations:
- Graz Thalerhof Airport (GRZ)
- Innsbruck Airport (INN)
- Klagenfurt Airport (KLU)
- Salzburg Airport (SZG)
- Vienna Airport (VIE)
And these neighborhood locations as well:
- Graz City at Keplerstrasse 93-95
- Innsbruck City at Valiergasse 50
- Linz City at Wiener Strasse 166
- Vienna City at Erdbergstrasse 202
- Wiez City at Dr Karl-widdmann-strasse 32
According to published reports, the Enterprise franchisee in Austria was Megadrive Autovermietung GmbH, and the off-airport location addresses match up with the locations listed on Megadrive's website. Interestingly, it appers that Megadrive is still accepting reservations via their website, so it's unclear at this time whether the franchisee has actually gone out of business, or just that one entity or the other has exercised their right to terminate the franchise agreement. Regardless, the net net is that Enterprise in Austria is, for the moment at least, out of business. Given that this makes two major franchises in Europe that have gone belly up in as many months, we're hoping this is not the tip of a melting iceberg in the region.
