In a recent blog post and infographic, Enterprise Holdings showed how their company has grown from the original Executive Leasing Company branch -- seven cars and three employees -- in 1957 to 100,000 employees in 2017. It's a phenomenal achievement by the comparatively young rental car company to become the largest rental car company in the world and simultaneously the largest family-owned rental car company in the world. What's most surprising about the infographic? In 1957, there were the original three employees and the company had grown to 1,000 employees by 1986, a period of 29 years. Between 1986 and 2017, the staffing of the company grew by a factor of 100, from 1,000 to 100,000!

Staff growth by a factor of 100 in 31 years is impressive, but Enterprise Holdings had some help along the way! In addition to expansion anywhere and everywhere, Enterprise made a decision a few years ago to not have franchises in the United States -- bringing in the employees from a franchise to a corporate model does help the employee count. And the 2007 acquisition of Vanguard, which renters are more familiar with as Alamo and National, definitely contributed to the growth in headcount! Yet no one can ever question the business acumen and commitment necessary for a family-owned business to gather the number one spot globally within an industry.
