Hertz plans to install a total of 2.3 megawatts of solar panels at 16 locations across the U.S. in 2011. This is the first phase of the company's solar initiative.
Hertz has already completed construction of a 235 kilowatt solar electric system located at Denver International Airport, where a pilot program was run last December.
Hertz will complete construction of an additional fifteen facilities across the U.S. by the end of the 3rd quarter this year. Hertz is retrofitting solar systems on rooftoops in facilities in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
Martifier Solar USA is engineering, procuring and installing the systems for Hertz. The 2.48 MW systems will supply enough energy to power approximately 300 homes per year and will offset the CO2 emissions of 271,009 gallons of consumed gasoline annually.
