Some of the members of the AutoSlash team enjoy action/superhero comedies and a few will be at the theatre this weekend to see Deadpool 2 (opening Friday, May 18). The movie was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia and the local tourism authority -- Tourism Vancouver -- has announced a contest where one winner and a guest will get to explore the city in a "Vancouver: Home of Deadpool’s Alter-ego, Ryan Reynolds" experience that includes airfare, hotel, meals, tours, science museums, and even some exotic cars. Entries to the contest involve a simple form, with one winner selected at random.

We would show one of the trailers here, but those are NSFW.

The Grand Prize includes round-trip airfare to Vancouver International Airport, three nights at the swanky JW Marriott Parq Vancouver, passes to Science World at TELUS World of Science, a walking tour of movie sites with Fans of Vancouver Tours, a theatrical tour with Forbidden Vancouver, a walking culinary tour with Off the Eaten Track, dinner at The Union, and dinner for two at Gotham Steakhouse and Cocktail Bar. That's a lot of walking and eating, so one would need a break while sitting in exotic cars from Scenic Rush Driving Experiences.

We love hopping behind the wheel of exotic cars; in fact, our operations team recently raced Ferraris in Las Vegas. Scenic Rush is different than our race experience at Las Vegas Motor Speedway; one doesn't get to race the exotic cars but instead takes a journey on paved roads through the verdant countryside and/or stunning coast. And while we "only" got to drive Ferraris, participants in Scenic Rush experiences get to spend time in four different vehicles.

So while the contest winner isn't provided with a traditional rental car, we think Tourism Vancouver has done just fine putting together a contest prize for those who enjoy nice things. Our team would hop at the opportunity to drive those four vehicles; I once flew across the country just to drive a Jucy RV for a blog post!

Of course, there are limitations and restrictions, just like with any other contest. There's no cash provided with the contest and a winner would be looking at paying taxes on the value of the prize. Potential winners of the contest would also want to pay close attention to the dates when the prize can be used -- Vancouver's weather in late September is much different than November and December; after all, some of our team last visited Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Aspects of the Rules and Regulations an entrant would have to accept:

  • Entries must be submitted by May 19, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
  • Open to U.S. residents (except Florida) and Canadian residents (except Quebec). Apparently, Florida's reputation is internationally known.
  • The prize can only be redeemed between September 16 and December 31, 2018.
  • And while Vancouver is the home of Ryan Reynolds, visits with the actor are not included.
