Every so often, we encounter facts or images that shatter childhood memories. Payless Car Rental wasn't (yet) a tire fire of consumer complaints in 1991. Chris Evert was a tennis superstar during the 1970s and 1980s. You know where this one is going, and it's going to hurt ...
Retiring from professional tennis in 1989 as the WTA record holder by winning percentage, Chris Evert was a celebrity endorser for Payless Car Rental in an advertisement from 1991. While incorporating vocals from a failed hair band lead singer, the commercial features a basic GM convertible of the era and a creepy cameraperson spending some time focused on the length of Ms. Evert's skirt (after all, this was Payless).
Fortunately, Payless hasn't been the driving force of any decade.
