Last summer, we wrote about Audi-owned Silvercar's "Stage the Perfect Getaway this Summer" contest, where one winner was going to win a vacation worth $10,000 to take in the fall or winter -- the marketing team clearly failed a bit at naming that contest. This year, the company -- which only rents Audi A4s and Audi Q5s -- has decided to take a bold step forward in their alliteratively named promotion "Silver Summer Sweepstakes". The grand prize in this summer's competition is an Audi A5 Cabriolet (silver, of course), which has been fully-redesigned for 2018. There are also 50 first prizes (airport lounge passes from loungebuddy) and a consolation prize for everyone (an Upside referral code) as part of the promotion. Silvercar had us at Audi A5 Cabriolet.
Let's start with eligibility -- the contest is open to residents 18+ who have a driver's license and insurance in the Continental United States or Washington D.C. -- Rhode Island was excluded last year but eligible this year. An individual can only enter once, via a mail-in entry or completing the form on Silvercar's sweepstakes website. Entries are due no later than 11:59:59 p.m. Central Time on September 10, 2018, and the winners will be picked at random; those interested in the promotion should simply submit single* entries and be done. Like all other contests and sweepstakes, the full official rules are available before participation.
* We can do alliteration just as well as Silvercar.
Every entrant to the contest receives the consolation prize, a $100 gift card from Upside with the purchase of a first business trip purchase of $600 or more through that firm. Frequent readers of the AutoSlash blog might recall that Upside is the organization that made up National Business Traveler Day. The downfall of the $100 gift card offer for everyone is that it's for first-time Upside users only (and there may be better referral codes available on the internet). Our team had multiple people who have been Upside members since the beta, so the "prize for everyone" had exactly no value for us.
Fifty (50) winners will be selected at random to receive an up to $50 airport lounge pass from loungebuddy, available for a single use. We could always find a use for that prize in our travels; even with our carefully chosen credit cards, we still have flights through airports where we wouldn't otherwise be entitled to lounge access. Much of the work of AutoSlash has been done in airport lounges!
Then there's the grand prize of the Audi A5 Cabriolet with 24 months of satellite radio service included. More specifically, the prize is:
One (1) Audi A5 Cabriolet 2.0T Quattro S tronic Premium Plus in Florett Silver metallic with black roof, black interior, and navigation package.
The prize has no substitutions or alterations; Silvercar is going to give out a silver A5 with an estimated price of $57,555. Winner gets to pay taxes and all fees related to registration but the winner gets an A5 Cabriolet; we consider that fair.
Some individuals have already posted reviews of this fine automobile.
The A5 is a really nice ride but really has us wondering -- why is Audi giving away an A5 Cabriolet when the company only rents Audi A4s (our rental experience is described here) and recently added Audi Q5s? Perhaps the company is giving us a subtle (or not-so-subtle) hint given locations in many areas where convertibles are usable year-round ...
